Tillandsia funckiana

more pictures

An extraordinary species from Venezuela that produces bright scarlet-red flowers when in bloom which is rare for Tillandsias.

Very similar to Tillandsia andreana, but T. funckiana is a caulescent species growing into long stems covered with thin, pine needle-like leaves. The leaves on the end of the plant blush red when in bud.

Produces many pups all along the stem and can eventually become a massive hanging cluster which is a spectacular sight in bloom.

Easy to grow with ample circulation and cooler but not cold temperatures.
